Okay. I will tell everyone beforehand that this post will make me look really good, so now you have been warned.
My Madsen family just did a long relay race this weekend (6/20-6/21). We got to stay in a car for 36 hours when not running, but we still had a lot of fun (,at least in van 1). We all did 3 legs. my legs added up to 13.3 miles.
At the starting line, my grandma was ready to go, but it wasn't time, so the starter did a little advertisement, and raced my cousin Ben, let him win, and gave him the trophy of a Myo Med pain relief lotion (that smells really bad). The starter basically walked, just to tell you.
Grandma had a good start, and we had fun squirting runners for the first couple of hours, during quite a few people's runs. (Then we decided that we were too tired to squirt anyone but our runners.) My cousin Ben (,who is my age) and I ran our first legs pretty well, although I thought that my first leg was my worst. Thankfully, the sky was overcast, and it wasn't nearly as hot as it was last year. (I didn't run it last year, though.) We got to go to our hotel after our van's run ahead of time. (GO US!) We swam, showered, and then headed back out for our night runs.
I ran at about 9 in complete dark, and our van finished at about 2. Then we got spaghetti dinner at 2:30 in the morning, and headed back to our hotel for a refreshing 1.5 hour sleep. Then we headed back for our last run at about 5.
My run was uphill, but I still kept up 10:30 minute miles. Ben ran with sweats on, and it looked like he kept pulling his pants up, though he informed us that his pants were just uneven, and he was trying to straighten them. *hehe*
Although it was fun, we were really glad when we got to the finish line. AND GOT FREE POPSICLES! :-) Our team averaged about 9 minute miles, I think. Dad will correct me if I'm wrong.
All in all, it was a very fun race, but I don't really feel like running it again until next summer. Right now, I'm working on catching up on the 8 hours of missing sleep. (I only got 2.)
If anyone else feels like running 15 miles, wearing a sweaty wristband, getting next to no sleep, and driving in a car for 30+ hours, comment, and we might find a place for you on our team next year.
Sorry that there are no pictures on this blog. I think my dad will put some on his.
